Kris Korzeniowski has been coaching teams around the world for over 30 years, and his boats have triumphed at the Olympic games and the world championships for rowing. He has coached teams all over the world including the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and China. Additionally, he has won gold medals in rowing when he was younger of course. Kris believes that every coach, no matter how successful he is, needs a second set of fresh eyes. After being with the same team day-after-day, the coaches and athletes start making compromise, that is why it is important to bring a fresh set of eyes to help the athletes.

We were all really excited to learn that we would have a chance to learn some rowing technique from Coach Kris. Our head coach Jen Figueroa, who also teaches anatomy at Buchholz high school, is one of the most resourceful people I know. She somehow managed to rope in Coach Kris to train our team for 2 whole days. Everyone got a chance and our team consists of 75-80 athletes, so each boat got about 2-3 hours with him. It was an honor and a pleasure to be coached by him for a few short hours.  I learned a lot about technique from him. He told me to improve my posture and he showed me more about how body mechanics impact the stroke. I found his accent to be incredibly hilarious. Lesson learned: Rowing is all about technique. Improved technique = Fast boat.
